Riverside Village Camel Kani Shawl

Beige and rose. A woven scene, not a woven pattern.

The field on this shawl is not floral repeat but landscape, a riverside village rendered entirely in the loom, with sloped roofed houses along the bank, dark pine and blossoming trees in olive, rose, and deepplum, and small boats scattered across the water in coral and violet. The composition reads almost like a tapestry panel, figurative and pictorial, worked in the same tapestry weave technique used for fine Kani work but applied here to a scenic rather than botanical subject. The reflections of the houses and trees are echoed faintly in the water below them, giving the weave a sense of depth uncommon in shawl work.

The border departs from the scene entirely and shifts into a structured architectural register: a sequence of small rectangular panels, each holding its own geometric motif in teal, coral, mustard, and plum, bordered by a fine floral guard band and finished with a dense chevron and leaf edge in the same palette. This framing device grounds the pictorial field and gives the shawl a clear sense of hierarchy, scene at the centre, ornament at the edge.

The reverse carries the weave through in reversed tone. Fine fringe at both ends.
